So you really want to know?……. In mid 2005 Bryan Smith wanted to provide little Raleigh NC with a new type of entertainment. After auditioning 4 female vocalist for this new project Bryan chose Katherine “Kat” Whitaker. Bryan wanted a high energy pop rock band with a female fronted vocalist and when he chose Kat he got much more.

Bryan remembered thinking, “she has an incredible range and the fact that such an incredible voice comes out of that tiny body is amazing.”

Forward to the year 2008 when Bryan and Kat agreed to start writing original songs that had the same feel as fun pop/rock songs you hear on top 40 radio. With stellar musicians in The Design backing up that huge voice and the high energy you got from the live performances the band progressed from a local act to regional touring act.

Laziest Perfectionist was The Design’s first musical attempt and it was a huge success. Selling thousands of albums and touring the country The Design was ready for the sophomore follow up……..

As 2011 came to a close……..”Young America” is here! The Design put even more work into producing the new album as the one previous. The song writing has clearly gotten better, live shows have become tighter and even more energetic. To ensure that The Design’s fans would be more impressed with the album, The Design went to great lengths make sure everything represented the band in the best possible way!

With the help of Mark McKee and Robbie Dooley of K House Recording, Frank Mc Donough and Dave Way (Pink, Michael Jackson, Macy Gray and Christina Aguilera) and Howie Weinberg (has worked with everyone that has been successful in music!) Young America turned out better than the band even hoped for.
